Abstract

Aleksandra Fostikov

Keywords: Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer (ChatGPT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Humanities (DH), history, science, society, civilization

Abstract
In a world that has already stepped into the Age of Imagination, an era that directly follows the Digital Age, the rise of the use of new technologies has led to the emergence of not only augmented and virtual reality and the accelerated development of robotics, but also to a leap in the development of artificial intelligence. Its outlines are clearly visible in the latest model of ChatGPT, a product of the company OpenAI that became available to the public in open access on November 30th, 2022. It is believed that by December 4th, 2022, it already had one million users. There were already over 250 scientific articles on the topic of this model by February 12th, most of them published in the form of preprints on portals such as Academia.edu, ResearchGate, and even Arxiv, and it found its place in eminent magazines such as the Economist and Forbes, among others. The name of this AI bot appeared in thousands of daily newspaper headlines, including in the domestic Serbian daily newspaper Politika (Политика), and continuously appears in everyday reports from various fields that are also published by electronic daily portals. In addition, the news about it gained significant number of followers as the AI itself on the social and business networks such as LinkedIn. Given that this is the beginning of a new era both for numerous sciences as well as for the civilization, this article is divided in three parts. According to said, the first part pays attention to early impressions of the use of this model and its possibilities, the second analysis its application so far and its impacts, while the third part reviews its possible applications in digital humanities, archivists and museology. Additionally, as the first search engines based on the use of this model appeared in the meantime, attention is also drawn to their capabilities. This paper is written based on the material and articles published so far, as well as on testing of this model and its related search engines.

Jelena Đurović

Keywords: libraries, cultural heritage, digitisation, research

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide an assessment of the current state of digitisation in Montenegrin libraries, which are important memory institutions responsible for preserving cultural heritage. Additionally, this paper offers recommendations for future work in this area. The introduction provides an overview of international initiatives, recommendations and present trends in the field of digital libraries and the digitisation of cultural heritage. The research methodology used in this study includes a tailor-made survey and an analysis of the web pages and annual work reports of the libraries. The study analyses digitisation programmes and projects, selection criteria for library materials, applied techniques and standards for the digitisation process and ways of using and preserving digital materials. The analysis of the gathered data provides an overview that should help libraries and decision-makers to identify obstacles and find optimal solutions to overcome challenges in digitising their rich resources. The paper concludes with recommendations aimed at contributing to the development of digitisation policies for libraries and other cultural heritage institutions. The ultimate goal is for these institutions to take on leading roles in the processes of building information and knowledge-based societies.

REVIEW AND TIMELINE OF THE BANAT’S COLONISATION

Zoran Cvetković

Keywords: Banat, colonisation of Banat, migrations, Banat military frontier, timelines

Abstract
In the early 1700s, Banat was one of the least developed parts of the Habsburg monarchy. Because of its strategic position on the southern border with Turkey, the interests of Austria, Hungary and Turkey overlapped at Banat. To ensure and strengthen control over the territory of Banat, the Habsburg monarchy set up a loyal population and established Banat military border. The first settlers of Banat met mostly marshland and a sharp continental climate. Not adapting to such conditions, some colonists became ill, and most of the rest left Banat. Realizing the problems, subsequent plans for the settlement of Banat included activities aimed at providing acceptable living conditions and independent employment for the settlers and the local population. This article provides a concise overview of 250 years of the Banat’s colonisation.

Gyula Mester

Keywords: The latest ranking list of researchers at the University of Novi Sad in 2023, scientific performance measurement, h-index, citations, Google Scholar, Orcid ID

Abstract
The paper presents the latest ranking list of researchers at the University of Novi Sad in 2023. The ranking is presented primarily according to the h-index of researchers. Researchers with the same h-index are ranked by the number of citations. We present the top 20 researchers in the ranking list from University of Novi Sad with the minimum h-index 29. h-index can be determined from the following online databases: Web of Science, Scopus, Google Scholar and the Publish or Perish program. The ranking is edited using the Google Scholar database. We also present the Orcid ID number of the researchers. The first chapter is the introduction, in the second chapter we present the latest ranking list of researchers at the University of Novi Sad in 2023, the third chapter is the conclusions.
